Club World Cup 2025 – Match Recap

Football fans packed into the electric MetLife Stadium on Monday night, expecting fireworks and Bayern Munich and Flamengo delivered in a six-goal spectacle. The German giants edged Brazilian champions Flamengo 4–2 to secure their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

This was more than just a game it was a clash of continents, cultures, and football philosophies. In the end, Bayern's efficiency and experience proved too much for Flamengo's flair and fighting spirit.
 Bayern Ruthless from the Start
The match barely settled before Bayern struck. In the 6th minute, a miscommunication in Flamengo's defense led to Erick Pulgar scoring an own goal, setting the tone for a chaotic first half.

Just six minutes later, Harry Kane doubled the lead for Bayern with a powerful shot that took a wicked deflection. Flamengo looked stunned, but to their credit, they responded with heart. Gerson’s curling finish in the 33rd minute gave the Brazilian side a lifeline, but Bayern weren’t done.

Right before halftime, Leon Goretzka finished off a well-worked move to make it 3–1. Bayern’s midfield dominated possession and their transitions sliced through Flamengo’s lines time and again.

Flamengo refused to go quietly. A VAR-reviewed handball earned them a penalty midway through the second half, which Jorginho confidently converted, cutting the deficit to 3–2 and bringing the game alive.

But just as Flamengo seemed to gain momentum, Bayern’s clinical edge struck again. In the 73rd minute, Harry Kane bagged his second of the night with a perfectly timed run and finish his 39th goal of the season in all competitions.

From there, Bayern controlled the tempo and saw the match out with typical composure.

This was a proper showcase of footballing brilliance. Bayern Munich reminded everyone why they are one of Europe’s elite, while Flamengo can hold their heads high for their fight and quality. For the neutrals, it was a joy to watch fast-paced, physical, and full of drama.

With this win, Bayern marches on to the quarter-finals one step closer to adding a second Club World Cup title to their trophy cabinet. For Flamengo, it’s the end of the road this time, but they’ll return home having added to the spirit and spectacle of this unforgettable tournament.
