PSG Blow Past Inter Miami 4-0 in Club World Cup Last 16
Written by Chris Kators

Paris Saint-Germain flexed their world-class pedigree on Saturday night, cruising to a 4–0 win over Inter Miami in the Round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup. The match, held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, proved to be a one-sided affair as the Ligue 1 champions outclassed the MLS side in every department.

First-Half Blitz
The game was practically over by halftime. PSG exploded with four goals in the opening 45 minutes, showing no mercy:

João Neves opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a close-range header off a Vitinha set piece.

The young Portuguese midfielder doubled his tally in the 39th minute with another clinical finish — a breakthrough performance for the 19-year-old.

An unfortunate own goal from Inter Miami defender Tomás Avilés made it 3–0.

Achraf Hakimi rounded out the first half with a composed finish in stoppage time to make it four.

PSG dominated possession (67%) and completed more than 700 passes, while Inter Miami struggled to put meaningful sequences together.

Messi vs His Former Club
Much of the pre-match hype focused on Lionel Messi facing his former club, but the Argentine legend had little impact. A second-half header and a late free-kick were easily dealt with by Gianluigi Donnarumma, who kept a clean sheet without breaking much of a sweat.

What Went Wrong for Miami?

Midfield Overrun: PSG’s midfield trio (Vitinha, Ugarte, Neves) controlled the tempo, shutting down any buildup.

Lack of Press Resistance: Inter Miami couldn’t handle PSG’s high pressing — they were dispossessed 15+ times in their own half.

No Response to Width: Hakimi and Nuno Mendes dominated the flanks, constantly stretching Miami’s defense.

Player of the Match: João Neves
At just 19, Neves showed composure beyond his years. His two goals were timed to perfection, and his link-up play with Vitinha and Ruiz was a standout. It was a breakout night for the Benfica product, now thriving under Luis Enrique.
With this commanding win, PSG moves on to the quarter-finals, where they await their next opponent in what’s shaping up to be a deep tournament run. Meanwhile, Inter Miami exits the competition after a spirited but humbling debut on the global stage.
