The Vancouver Whitecaps continued their strong form at home with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night in MLS regular season action. A result that consolidated their leadership in the western conference, 26 points from 11 matches.
Vancouver struck early when J. Nelson opened the scoring in the 20th minute, taking advantage of a defensive lapse and finishing with precision. The Whitecaps maintained control through much of the first half, pressing high and limiting RSL’s attacking opportunities.
The Whitecaps continued from where they left off after making it to the finals of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup finals, T.Blackmon doubled the lead for the home team in the 70th minutes when he powered in a header from a set-piece delivery.
RSL pushed hard in the closing stages and were eventually rewarded with a penalty deep into stoppage time. Diego Luna converted from the spot in the 90’+6 minute, but it was too little too late.
